Upon his arrival in Ireland, Mr. Kinahan is to be taken before the Special Crime Court in Dublin, Irish public broadcaster RTE said.
The Irish Department of Justice and the National Police declined to comment. The Kinahan affair “remains at this stage within the remit of the United Arab Emirates authorities,” Irish police told AFP.
Alleged leader of the Kinahan cartel, also known as the “Irish Mafia”, this Dubai-based organization is accused by American and European authorities of carrying out large-scale criminal activities, including drug trafficking and money laundering.
With a wealth estimated by the Irish police at more than 1 billion euros, it is the most powerful criminal organization in Ireland.
Last April, Daniel Kinahan, 49, was arrested in Dubai and Irish authorities requested his extradition from their Emirati counterparts.
Mr. Kinahan, who lost all his appeals against this extradition, is to be the second senior cartel executive to be extradited from Dubai after Sean McGovern, extradited in 2025.
A high-ranking member of the Kinahan cartel, Sean McGovern, 40, was sentenced for murder by Irish courts to 24 years in prison last June, in a case which takes place in the context of a long and violent war between the two rival gangs, Kinahan and Hutch.
