This is the news that has saddened the world of cinema since Sunday: actress Hayden Panettiere lost her life at only 36 years old. The causes of the American’s death are not yet known. What is certain, however, is that she leaves behind her 11-year-old daughter, Kaya. In his last interview before his death, given to the magazine “Momé” in July, the star of the series “Heroes” spoke of the importance of his daughter in his life.
But also all the difficulties that her motherhood had caused. Hayden Panettiere revealed that she almost died during childbirth, before suffering from postpartum depression.
Having just given birth to her daughter by cesarean section, Hayden Panettiere had to undergo emergency surgery. “I closed my eyes and prayed that my daughter would be okay,” she said. I was definitely ready to leave if my time had come. That Kaya was safe and healthy was all that mattered.” Seven blood transfusions and two operations will be necessary to save the mother.
Custody of his daughter entrusted to his father
Then the hardest part comes: “I had always heard that mothers felt an instant rush of love, but that wasn’t my case. I didn’t feel anything and I didn’t understand the reason,” she explained. The cause of this lack of emotions: postpartum depression. The illness had robbed her of the ability to feel anything for her child.
To fill this void, Hayden Panettiere starts drinking. A lot. To the point of becoming completely dependent on alcohol. After a stint in rehab, the actress made the difficult decision to entrust custody of her daughter to her father, the former Ukrainian boxer Wladimir Klitschko, from whom she had separated.
“It was not a decision that I took lightly, nor even a decision that I wanted to make,” she emphasized. I was going through a very difficult time…I knew I had to put her first so I could get the help I needed and be the mother she needed to be.”
Hayden Panettiere made all these decisions for the good of her daughter. The star concluded the interview with this powerful sentence: “You are much stronger than you think. Everything will be fine.” A few weeks later, she left.
