There will probably never be a “Lethal Weapon 5”. Danny Glover revealed Wednesday that he suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, an incurable condition against which he can count on the support of his family.

The actor, partner of Mel Gibson in the four parts of the crazy police franchise, explained on the NBC channel that he had been fighting the disease for several years.

“I can live with it, to a certain extent,” said the actor, who also starred in hits like “The Color Purple” and “Mandela.” “I’m sure as she progresses things are going to be different and change.”

The neurodegenerative disease affected his speech and slowed his movements, but he said his family helped him. “They are there for me,” he insisted.

Danny Glover, who received an honorary Oscar in 2022 to recognize his humanitarian action, is a prolific actor with a very diverse career.

His notable film roles range from a corrupt police officer in Harrison Ford’s thriller “Witness”, to the comic register in Wes Anderson’s eccentric “The Tenenbaums”, including the alien hunter in “Predator 2”.

His television career has also been busy, with recurring roles in series like “Emergencies” and “Captain Furillo.”

Alzheimer’s disease is an incurable form of dementia that affects memory, thinking and behavior, and gets progressively worse, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. It generally affects people aged 65 and over.

People diagnosed with the disease live an average of four to eight years after diagnosis, although some live much longer.
