Board of Education President Marsha Herbert gave an impassioned speech to parents regarding the impact of state “Blueprint" education mandates and the resulting budget crisis: “Carroll County Parents…We need your help”

The Carroll County Board of County Commissioners and Board of Education have sent a joint letter to the Carroll County delegation expressing their opposition to House Bill 119. 

According to Mayor Nevin, “We're looking for jobs not trucks”. 

Commissioners look to address two area businesses accounting for more than half of the services calls to police for crimes spanning theft and drug activity.

A former Maryland State Department of Education executive has come forward accusing State Superintendent Mohammed Choudhury of impropriety regarding business dealings with a consulting firm awarded sole-source contracts totaling a half-million dollars.|“The State Board of Education should immediately open an internal investigation.  Blueprint is the most important initiative for our public education system. The bar should be set high for any contractual services supporting the program.  For Superintendent Choudhury to bypass proper vetting and grant a sole source, half-million dollar contract to a personal friend is at best unethical and reflects poor judgment.  The gross misuse of taxpayer funds puts Maryland’s Blueprint at risk and shakes the public’s confidence in the Superintendent.”

A former MSDE executive close to the situation had this to say: “For me the worst thing about Blueprint is the leadership who’s left leading it.  They are effectively flying blind...Simply put, Choudhury’s leadership puts Blueprint at risk.”
