Concerns about Mimi Mathy’s state of health seem to be confirmed. Seen in a wheelchair during the Enfoirés show at the beginning of the year, the almost 69-year-old actress today recognizes that her movements have become very complicated.
“I don’t walk anymore,” she confides to Ciné-Télé-Revue. She immediately qualifies: “Well… I have a lot of difficulty walking, but that’s linked to my configuration.”
This physical limitation does not, however, prevent him from continuing to tour. In the next new episode of Joséphine, guardian angelbroadcast on July 6 on RTBF, his character also retains all his powers. “The advantage of Joséphine is that she moves by snapping her fingers, and she moves very quickly,” she smiles. Director Christophe Barraud even took a few humorous scenes from it. “As a result, director Christophe Barraud had some very funny ideas. Like, Joséphine getting caught on the radar with a pigeon! It made me laugh a lot.”
“I have no choice, we will deal with it”
Always accustomed to dealing with her disability, Mimi Mathy explains that this new stage represents an additional challenge. “I overcame my difference since childhood thanks to a family environment, to guardian angels who were my parents, first, then others that I met on my path. It was a visual difference, I would say, my difference. Now it becomes a mechanical difference.”
Despite the difficulties, the actress says she can count on the support of those close to her. “Of course, I’m breaking down like everyone else, but I’m lucky enough to live, to breathe, to have a wonderful husband, to have children, grandchildren, an entourage of friends who are absolutely extraordinary.”
She recognizes, however, that this loss of autonomy is sometimes difficult to accept. “There are times when it is not easy to accept becoming more dependent, but hey… I have no choice, we will deal with it, and I will continue to surround myself sufficiently so as not to be a burden for the people who are with me and to manage it as best as possible.”
However, Mimi Mathy has no plans to slow down her activity. “It won’t stop me from filming, or from writing, or from traveling, or from continuing to have projects! There, moreover, I am preparing a new show, in which I will take on the wheelchair.
