Princess Kate capped off her two-day stay in Italy on Thursday with a cooking class where she learned how to make pasta, during her first official visit abroad since her cancer diagnosis in 2024.
The Princess of Wales, wife of heir to the throne William, prepared “tortelli”, a regional specialty similar to ravioli, at a rural lodge near the northern city of Reggio Emilia.
Looking a little hesitant, Kate kneaded the dough, added the stuffing and cut the pasta under the watchful eye of a chef, Ivan Lampredi, who assisted her.
“Sorry, I’m very slow,” she can be heard saying at one point. “Don’t worry,” the chief told him.
Earlier in the day, she visited an Italian preschool practicing nature-based learning, as well as a center aimed at educating children about recycling.
Education is a theme dear to the 44-year-old princess, who had three children with her husband William: George, 12, Charlotte, 11, and Louis, 8.
She created the Early Childhood Center in 2021 and works to raise awareness of the importance of a child’s first years.
Kate’s last official overseas visit was in December 2022, when she traveled to Boston, US, with William to receive her Earthshot Environmental Prize.
In March 2024, she revealed that she was suffering from cancer, the nature of which was not revealed, and for which she underwent chemotherapy.
Since the announcement of her remission in January 2025, she has gradually returned to the forefront.
