Real Madrid’s Brazilian defender Eder Militao is expected to be unavailable for several months and forced to withdraw from the 2026 World Cup with the Seleção. He underwent successful surgery on his left thigh, according to his club.
“Our player Éder Militão underwent today (Tuesday) a successful surgical procedure for a rupture of the proximal tendon of the biceps femoris of the left leg,” wrote Real Madrid in a press release, without specifying the duration of the absence.
Operated in a clinic in Finland, under the supervision of the club’s medical services, the 28-year-old defender “will begin his rehabilitation in the coming days”. His absence is estimated at least five months according to the Spanish and Brazilian press.
Victim of successive injuries for two years, including two ruptured cruciate ligaments, Militao should therefore miss the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico (June 11 – July 19). A huge blow for the player as well as for his coach Carlo Ancelotti, his former coach in Madrid, who considers him “one of the best defenders in the world”.
