We found something that the 1 Republican and 7 Democrats in the House of Representatives from Maryland can unite behind…FEAR over TikTok.

What happened today:

The US House on Wednesday approved legislation that could ban TikTok in the United States over concerns about the video sharing platform’s Chinese ownership.

The bill, which passed on a bipartisan 352-65 vote, would require the app to part ways with its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, within 180 days or face a ban in American app stores.

How did representatives from Maryland vote:

  • Harris Maryland – R – Yes
  • Hoyer Maryland – D – Yes
  • Ivey Maryland – D – Yes
  • Mfume Maryland – D – Yes
  • Raskin Maryland – D – Yes
  • Ruppersberger Maryland – D – Yes
  • Sarbanes Maryland – D – Yes
  • Trone Maryland – D – Yes

Congressman Ruppersberger put out this statement today:

Other statements posted as they are discovered:

The bill’s future in the Senate is less clear, as many lawmakers have said they are still evaluating it and may make changes.

President Joe Biden has said he would be prepared to sign the bill if it passes both chambers.

Former President Donald Trump had initially supported banning TikTok but reversed support in recent days.

#tiktokban House just overwhelming passed the bill that will essentially “ban” TikTok in the United States. BUT! This is NOT over yet. This bill will NOT become law today.

Observer Opinion: Maybe US Senators in this country (and maybe this state – but i doubt it right now) will actually do the right thing and kill this legislation. I will keep an eye out for comments from Senators Cardin and Van Hollen on this subject. We are pretty sure that former Governor and US Senate candidate Larry Hogan supports this legislation (READ MORE HERE) and Congressman Trone (and US Senate candidate) voted for this legislation (see above). I am unsure how other US Senate candidates in Maryland stand but I can tell you I am interested to know now. The big winner in all of this is Meta (Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and WhatsApp) and other social media companies that lobby all of the elected officials…as well as main stream media that can continue to push THEIR narratives on the public. Good job House of Representatives…you now have shown how you are not REALLY all that representative of your constituents (in my opinion).
