Minab massacre: the message left by Iran in the locker room

For Iran, this 2026 World Cup is much more than football. After entering the fray against New Zealand (2-2), the selection declared that it was “the most mistreated” of the World Cup due to the restrictions imposed on it (refusal of visas, relocation of its base camp to Mexico and ban on entering American territory two days before the match). The Iranian Federation will also file a complaint with FIFA.

Sunday, after its second match against Belgium (0-0) in Los Angeles, Team Melli decided to send a new message. She left a handwritten note on a chalkboard in the locker room at SoFi Stadium.

“From ancient Persia thousands of years ago to the civilized Iran of today, the Iranian spirit remains alive and unwavering. We came to Los Angeles with pride, we performed with honor, and we leave with dignity. Thank you Los Angeles for your hospitality.”

The Iranians also included #168 and #minab in their message. This refers to the bombing of the Minab school by the American army on February 28, 2026, which cost the lives of 168 people, mainly young girls between 7 and 12 years old.

The rest of the note was intended for supporters of the selection. “Thank you to the Iranians who gave their heart, voice and soul for Iran for 180 minutes.”

The message concludes with a message of peace: “May peace, respect and friendship reign among all nations.” Iran will play its final group match on June 27 in Seattle against Egypt.
