Tennis legend, Chris Evert, is once again going through a difficult ordeal. At 71, the American champion announced Thursday that she had learned of a relapse of her ovarian cancer. It was following routine medical examinations last weekend that the diagnosis was made, forcing her to immediately suspend her professional activities.
Faced with this diagnosis, the former world number one shared a message tinged with combativeness on social networks. “Ovarian cancer is a relentless cancer, but I will remain optimistic and determined to continue this fight,” she said. Evert also clarified that she had already undergone a first surgical procedure and that she would begin a chemotherapy protocol in the coming weeks.
This twist of fate marks the second recurrence of the disease for the champion. Diagnosed for the first time in January 2022, she experienced a first relapse in December 2023 after a period of remission.
Due to her treatment, she will not be able to perform her usual role as a commentator for the ESPN channel during the 2026 Wimbledon tournament. The tennis world quickly mobilized to send her numerous messages of support and courage in the face of this new fight.
