British singer Dua Lipa has taken South Korean electronic equipment manufacturer Samsung to court in California, accused of using her image without authorization on television packaging.

The artist is seeking at least $15 million in damages, according to the summons document filed on May 8 in a federal court in Los Angeles and consulted by AFP.

The incriminating photo was taken backstage at the Austin City Limits festival, where Dua Lipa performed in 2024. It is registered in her name.

The lawyers of the performer and co-author of the hits “Levitating” or “Don’t Start Now” argue that Samsung never requested authorization to use the photo in question.

In June 2025, Dua Lipa asked Samsung to no longer put it on the cardboard of some of its televisions, without success.

According to the singer’s lawyers, the South Korean group even continues, to this day, to sell products in the United States whose packaging includes this photo.

Asked by AFP, Samsung did not immediately respond.

The artist, whose parents come from the Kosovo Albanian community, cites several messages posted on social networks by fans assuring that they bought a Samsung television because his photo was on the packaging.

“Ms. Lipa is very selective about her commercial partnerships and has developed a high-end image by carefully choosing prestigious sponsors,” emphasize her lawyers.

As a result, they assure that even if she had had the opportunity, the singer “would not have wanted to associate her name and image with the incriminated products”.
