Frenchman Teddy Riner, almost absent from the tatamis since his third Olympic title at the Paris Olympics, will resume competition at the Grand Slam in Lausanne at the end of August, the organizers of the judo tournament announced on Tuesday.
“The multiple Olympic champion and absolute reference in his discipline will participate in this key stage of the calendar,” declare the organizers in a press release.
“This highly anticipated arrival is part of his preparation for the next World Championships,” he added.
Since his two gold medals in Paris in the summer of 2024 (individual and team), the 37-year-old Frenchman had still not returned to individual competition.
He had simply played a fight during the Champions League won at the end of 2024 with his club PSG.
“Coming back to competition is always a highlight. Lausanne is an important step to get me back into the rhythm and regain sensations,” explained Riner, quoted in the tournament press release.
The Lausanne Grand Slam, of which this is the first edition, will take place from August 28 to 30, while the Worlds are scheduled for Baku in Azerbaijan in October.
