At the end of the first round of the last giant of the season, in Hafjell (Norway), Wednesday morning, queen Mikaela Shiffrin knew that she could still be pipped on the post by Emma Aicher and not pocket the big globe in the general classification.
17th, she had to complete the day’s event in the top 15 to be sure of winning her sixth big crystal globe. When she understood that it was good, at the beginning of the afternoon, at the end of her second round, the queen did not hide her emotion. Shiffrin broke down in tears and was congratulated by her teammates.
For the result of the day, the giant of the finals was won by the Canadian Valérie Grenier, ahead of the Norwegian Mina Fürst Holtmann and the Austrian Julia Scheib. The Valaisanne Camille Rast finished 6th and Mikaela Shiffrin finally 11th.
The specialty globe was already assured for Julia Scheib.
At 31 years old and 110 World Cup victories, Shiffrin caps off a 2025-26 winter in which she disgusted her competitors in slalom, her favorite discipline, with an Olympic title in Cortina and nine victories in ten World Cup races between the stakes.
By winning the overall World Cup ranking for the sixth time in her career (2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023 and 2026), she equaled the women’s record of Austrian Annemarie Moser-Pröll, set in the 1970s.
