The International Ski Federation (FIS) published this Thursday a ranking of the prize money, i.e. the winnings pocketed by the athletes this year in the World Cup, for the alpine. Unsurprisingly, the two winners of the big globes are in the lead.
Marco Odermatt (9 victories this year) pocketed exactly 741,254 euros, or around 679,000 francs. Mikaela Shiffrin (also 9 victories) 615,167 euros, or 563,000 francs. Next we find the German Emma Aicher, but with almost half as much as Odermatt: 387,265.50 euros, or around 354,000 francs.
Here is the top 5 for men, in francs, with three Swiss. 1: Marco Odermatt, 679,000 francs. 2: Lucas Pinheiro Braathen, 329,000. 3: Loïc Meillard, 290,000. 4: Atle Lie McGrath, 280,000. 5: Franjo von Allmen, 255,000.
In the first 30, we also find Alexis Monney (17th, 90,000 francs), Stefan Rogentin (18th, 76,000) and Tanguy Nef (30th, 46,000).
For women, there is a Swiss in the five biggest wins of the season. 1: Mikaela Shiffrin, 563,000 francs. 2: Emma Aicher, 354,000. 3: Julia Scheib, 312,000. 4: Camille Rast, 293,000. 5: Sofia Goggia 271,000.
Corinne Suter, with 126,000 francs, is 12th in this ranking. Wendy Holdener (110,000), 14th.
To have a point of comparison, the Valaisans Daniel Yule and Justin Murisier, 57 and 58th in the men’s ranking, pocketed some 19,000 francs over the season. A Mélanie Meillard, 61st among women, 13,000 francs.
Note that this ranking concerns winnings during World Cup events – 37 this season for women, 36 for men. As noted 20 minutesSwiss Olympics, for example, also paid this year 50,000 francs per gold medal at the Olympics, or 150,000 for Franjo von Allmen, exceptional in Milan Cortina. And revenues linked to advertisements, sponsors or partners are obviously not included.
