After the coverage of “Paris Match” which sparked so many comments, the “8 p.m.” of France 2. Guest Wednesday evening, the president of the National Rally (RN) Jordan Bardella was questioned about his romance with Princess Maria Carolina of Bourbon of the Two Sicilies.
“Did you give your consent for these photos? Or are these stolen photos? Are you going to file a complaint against “Paris Match”?, asked journalist Léa Salamé.
The president of the far-right party responded, making the connection official by definitively making the connection. According to him, it was a sort of half-paparazzade: the couple knew that photographers were there, they decided to give in.
“When you do politics at the level I do, it’s very difficult to maintain a private life. You know that I have always been very attached to my private life and it turns out that for several months, we were being stalked by paparazzi who camped outside our home and who followed us during our travels,” began Jordan Bardella.
The president of the RN explained that for the published images, he was in Corsica with the rich aristocrat Maria Carolina de Bourbon des Deux-Siciles. And that photographers had followed them “for many weeks”.
“We both made the decision to no longer hide, to assume what is obvious to us in our private life,” he assured.
Jordan Bardella again asked to be judged on “his ideas”, notes BFMTV, then blurted out: “But in any case, I can tell you one thing this evening, I am very happy.”
Last week, French left-wing MP Alexis Corbière denounced “peopopulism”. “This is a new stage in the trivialization of the extreme right,” he lamented.
Questioned by AFP, Sciences Po communications professor Philippe Moreau-Chevrolet noted that it is difficult at this stage to assess whether this formalization could benefit Jordan Bardella politically. “Will his voters buy into the fairy tale of the descendant of Italian immigrants who dates a princess? Or will they say ‘he’s betraying us to join the jet set’? We don’t know,” he commented.
