American singer Britney Spears has entered rehab, American media reported on Sunday, a month after her arrest for driving under the influence in California.

The ex-pop star was arrested in early March and taken into custody in California, before being quickly released, according to public records from the Ventura County sheriff, near Los Angeles, which did not specify whether she was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

“This is an unfortunate and completely inexcusable incident. Britney will take the necessary measures and comply with the law,” reacted one of her representatives in a press release sent to the Deadline site.

Several American media reported on Sunday that the 44-year-old singer had voluntarily started detoxification in a treatment center, without specifying her exact date of admission or the purpose of her treatment.

A busy life

Britney Spears is due in court on May 4 for her arrest for driving under the influence, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The singer of “…Baby One More Time” and “Oops!… I Did It Again”, who reigned over the music planet in the 2000s, had an eventful life, to which she returned in her autobiography, “The Woman in Me”, published in October 2023.

“I loved drinking, but I never lost control,” she wrote, also admitting to having taken Adderall, a medication prescribed for the treatment of attention disorders and which belongs to the amphetamine family.

She returns to her poor childhood spent in the shadow of an alcoholic father, her romantic setbacks with Justin Timberlake, and the harassment of the paparazzi.

After her descent into hell in 2007, the singer was placed under the guardianship of her father Jamie Spears, who controlled her money and her private life, even while she was performing concerts in Las Vegas.

Pushed by her fans, united under the slogan “Free Britney”, the pop star ended up rebelling and American justice broke this guardianship in 2021.
