There is widespread opposition to House Bill 119 and Senate Bill 199 in Maryland. Watch the video from the Carroll County Observer here and get links below in the text:

Text from the video…with links of interest:

House Bill 119 and likely Senate Bill 199 would drastically change local control of education…giving the State Superintendent massive control over local school curriculums…including any local opt out plans.

Now there is wide spread opposition to this legislation…

From the State Board of Education which opposes it: https://www.concernedparentsofccmd.com/2023/03/14/the-walls-are-closing-in-on-superintendent-choudhury/ and https://twitter.com/kris10griffith/status/1636367707737141248?s=20

From MABE…an entity that represents all 24 member school boards across the state…that opposes it: https://www.mabe.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/HB119_MABEStatement_2023_03_08.pdf?fbclid=IwAR0Ds6A9NKSJogJhmh3x5gtRe0PPLw3ALBhiryYniINT676QAIL6hSE3C5M and https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2023/03/10/maryland-curriculum-sex-education/

There is a recently launched online petition to remove the State Superintendent over this legislation…as he is a main reason it is out there…that petition current has over 1,600 signatures this morning: https://www.change.org/p/protect-local-school-boards-remove-md-state-superintendent-choudhury-from-office?utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=custom_url&recruited_by_id=2320e6c2-8023-4b4a-a261-3dbc14760361

That petition has even been reported by one of the major media outlets in the state: https://www.thebaltimorebanner.com/education/k-12-schools/maryland-schools-state-funding-G53K77VWC5GPJETQCI6YHWDO2M/

But all indications are that State Senator Lam from Howard County will continue to push this radical legislation forward in the State Senate at some point this session: https://wjla.com/news/local/house-bill-119-maryland-state-superintendent-withhold-funding-for-county-boards-md-association-of-boards-education-mabe-senator-clarence-lam-comply-with-every-element-standards?fbclid=IwAR1Q0Jvwr-Zmnc1tDGiVppn08la8o6d-i4SVU7Il13sS6DJ9uyfIELMh0_E

With so much opposition of this legislation…one has to wonder why…or who is behind him pushing this agenda on the state.

Maybe the major media outlets should look into that…because I am having a hard time finding anyone or any entity supporting this legislation at this point.
