Carroll County Early Voting Turnout Through Day 6

The Carroll County Observer will be tracking the early voting turnout throughout the 2022 General Election (Oct 27th – Nov 3rd).

Here is a recap of early voting in Carroll County through day 6:

Total votes cast in Carroll County through day 6: 9,289

  • Westminster continues to have the lion share of early voters through day 6 (4,905 votes cast at that location in six days).
  • The turn out numbers continued to increase on day 6 (Tuesday) and we should continue to see these numbers rise on Wednesday and Thursday.

Of the 9,289 votes cast on days 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6:

  • 2,617 are registered Democrats
  • 108 are registered Green, Libertarian, WCP or Other
  • 5,322 are registered Republicans
  • 1,242 are registered as Unaffiliated / Independent

The 9,289 votes cast to date makes up 7.28% of eligible voters in the county. This percentage continues to top the statewide early voting % turnout (5.69% statewide through day 6).

Fun Fact: Of the jurisdictions in Maryland with over 100,000 eligible voters…Carroll County has the second highest percentage of early voters to eligible voters:

  1. Harford County: 7.69%
  2. Carroll County: 7.28%
  3. Howard County: 7.10%
  4. Baltimore County: 6.16%
  5. Anne Arundel County: 5.94%
  6. Charles County: 5.89%
  7. Frederick County: 5.10%
  8. Prince George’s County:  5.02%
  9. Montgomery County 4.86%
  10. Baltimore City: 3.30%

Obviously mail in voting has likely changed how many people come out and vote early. The question that should be asked…do we still need 8 days of early voting now that we have a significantly expanded mail in voting system in Maryland? Something to think about for the future.

Looking back at the past 2 Gubernatorial elections:

  • 2018: 12,251 total votes cast through day 6 of early voting in Carroll County (2 early voting locations)
  • 2014: 5,281 total votes cast through day 6 of early voting in Carroll County (1 early voting location)

The Observer will continue to track this data daily through Early Voting.
