If you watched the Carroll County Student Government Association Board of Education Candidate Forum on September 20th there may have been a number of statements made by the candidates that stood out to you. One statement made by a candidate (Dr. Amanda Jozkowski) that I walked away from thinking was interesting was this…

“…one of my first actions would be to immediately repeal the flag policy and to revisit the political neutrality policy as well if I’m elected to the board.”

Now this was part of a response to the following question:

“As the school system becomes more diverse, how do you plan on building a culture of respect, unity, and kindness through policies and initiatives to create a school system that is more inclusive and equitable?”

Here is the full question and full answer from Dr. Amanda Jozkowski:

Why this stood out to me was the “one of my first actions” part of the statement. Every school system faces a number of issues and challenges so making this a priority (that is how I took the statement) really caught my attention.

So my question I have for the readers is this…do you think that the Flag Policy and/or the Political Neutrality Policy are such a high priority that it should be one of the first actions of a new incoming (or re-elected) Board of Education member?

Let me know you thoughts in the comments (here on the site or on social media: Facebook or Twitter).
