Carroll County Sheriff’s Office take suspect for evaluation after barricade in Westminster on July 17th

“Suspect taken for evaluation after barricade”

On Sunday, July 17th, 2022, at approximately 11:12am, Westminster Police Department Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Ewing Drive, Westminster, for the report of 51 year old male experiencing a behavioral emergency.

Upon arrival, WPD Officers found that the male had several edged weapons. He threatened the Officers with the edged weapons, and then barricaded himself in a room. All other occupants of the residence were able to leave unharmed. Westminster Police then requested the Carroll County Crisis Response Team to respond to assist in bringing the incident to a peaceful resolution.

The Crisis Response Team, along with negotiators, arrived and began to communicate with the subject. At approximately 2:06pm, with negotiations continuing and the subject continuing to threaten law enforcement, the Crisis Response Team utilized less lethal tools in an attempt to end the barricade and get the male the assistance he needed.

At approximately 2:19pm, the male was taken into custody. Despite the presence of edged weapons, no lethal force options were needed in order to resolve this incident. The subject was transported to Carroll Hospital Center for treatment and evaluation.
