UPDATE: Bridge now scheduled to close on April 22nd. You can see the update in this article published April 6th:
Information from Maryland Department of Transportation, State Highway Administration on March 18th:
The MD 91 bridge will close on Monday, April 15 at 6 a.m. The contractor and project crew will install signs to alert motorists at least two weeks prior to the closure start date.
The MD 91 bridge will be closed for about nine months so crews can safely demolish the current structure and construct a new one.
The detour route uses MD 30 and MD 140. Please see the graphic on this webpage for guidance.
This is an “Overview” of the project:
The project will replace the bridge on MD 91 (Emory Road) over North Branch of the Patapsco River and the bridge on MD 91 over the Maryland Midland Railroad.
The bridges were originally constructed in 1967, and while safe for current use, both are nearing the end of their useful service life. Replacing the bridges will save money on future maintenance spending and support safety and mobility as a part of MDOT SHA’s goal of keeping Maryland’s transportation system in a good state of repair.
To complete the necessary work safely, both bridges will be closed and traffic detoured during construction. The detour is expected to be in place for approximately nine months.
