There is “no chance” that Erling Haaland will join Real Madrid this summer, Manchester City said on Thursday, threatening to take legal action against Enrique Riquelme, candidate for the presidency of the Spanish club, who made this promise.
“Reports from Spain regarding Erling Haaland’s future are false,” a Manchester City spokesperson said. “There is no chance of this happening and there is no contractual clause that allows it. We are considering prosecution for the use of our player’s image in this context.
The current president of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez, faces businessman Enrique Riquelme in an election scheduled for June 7 in which some 100,000 “socios” (supporters) of the club with fifteen Champions League titles can take part.
On Wednesday on television, Enrique Riquelme promised to recruit Rodri and Erling Haaland, two Manchester City stars, in the event of victory. He held up a Spanish club jersey with Haaland and the number nine in front of the cameras, and assured: “Haaland has a departure clause and he wants to join Real Madrid.”
A value of 227 million
The 25-year-old Norwegian center forward has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world since arriving in England in 2022 from Borussia Dortmund. He has just finished the Premier League season as top scorer with 27 points, five more than his runner-up Igor Thiago of Brentford.
In January 2025, he signed a new contract for nine and a half years.
The CIES Football Observatory, in a communication dated June 3, estimates his current transfer value at 227 million euros.
