French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez announced Monday that there had been “more than 890 arrests, an increase of more than 45%” compared to 2025 on Saturday and Sunday in France on the occasion of PSG’s coronation in the Champions League.
He added that “178” police officers and gendarmes had been injured during these two days.
President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday deemed the violence “in Paris and other cities” following PSG’s victory in the Champions League final in Budapest on Saturday evening “unspeakable”.
“That’s not football, that’s not sport, that’s not what we like. So thank you to our police officers, to our gendarmes. We will be uncompromising with those who have been caught. We don’t want to see that anymore. Finished. We are fed up,” declared the Head of State, referring to “unacceptable scenes of violence.”
In 2025, after the Parisian club’s first victory in the Champions League, 592 people were arrested, including 491 in Paris.
