The upcoming budget discussions happening in 2024 for the Fiscal Year 2025 budget may be worth watching. The number of discussions around potential tax increases last year (during the FY24 budget process) could be an indicator of what we may hear and see in the discussions for the FY25 budget.

Carroll County Government has not listed the upcoming meetings on their Budget page or in their budget calendar as of this article. View that page here: https://www.carrollcountymd.gov/government/directory/management-budget/bureau-of-budget/

On the YouTube channel for Carroll County Government there are a number of scheduled meetings relating to the FY25 budget. Here is what is listed today:

I had to hand type these so I am hoping I made no errors. Visit the County Government YouTube channel for verification of the information above.

As someone that has watched budget meetings over the years I can tell you that some of the early “Hearings” can be a bit dry and not sure you need to pay a lot of attention to them early on in the process (although they make for some good reference later on in the process).

The best meetings to watch begin with the April 2nd “Work Session” (this is my opinion).

I will keep an eye out for changes to this schedule when it is published on the Carroll County Government website (link above).

If you like Budget history The Observer has put together a few videos that you might find interesting on some revenue and expenses over time in the past (something I wish the Budget office and Commissioners spent some time reviewing as part of the budget process).

Additional “Budget History” videos are planned but there is not a timeline for release as of this article.

I would HIGHLY recommend residents pay attention this year to the budget process and follow The Observer…as it is likely items from the budget discussions will be published across our social media channels and website throughout the process.
