Public Hearing scheduled for Carroll County FY2023 Budget on May 10th

The Carroll County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 7 p.m. to consider and receive comments regarding the Fiscal Year 2023 Proposed Budget, Constant Yield, Water and Sewer Rates, and Solid Waste Fees. The hearing will be held at the Carroll County Arts Center located at 91 W. Main Street in Westminster.

Citizens are encouraged to view the budget in its entirety and learn more about the FY 2023 budget process by visiting https://www.carrollcountymd.gov/budget. The public is encouraged to participate by viewing the livestream on the county YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Z1xsoKeBJQ.

Comments must be made in person during the hearing. Those unable to attend the public hearing who wish to comment may submit directly to Management and Budget Director Ted Zaleski at tzaleski@carrollcountymd.gov or the Board of Commissioners at commissioners@carrollcountymd.gov. Comments must be received by May 16, 2022.

Additional budget work sessions may be held by the commissioners to make any modifications to the proposed budget based on the information received during the Budget Public Hearing. Formal adoption of the FY2023 budget scheduled for Tuesday, May 24, 2022.

Meetings are available for viewing on the county meeting portal and the county YouTube channel. In addition, all meetings will be replayed on Comcast Channel 24.

On May 5th current Carroll County Board of Education member Tara Battaglia posted the following statement and images relating to the current proposed budget:

There is a public hearing May 10th regarding funding for the County. Carroll County Public Schools needs and should be 50% of the County budget! CCPS is the largest employer in Carroll County! Our teachers and our staff should be receiving proper salaries, and the funding is needed to do that from the Commissioners! Send emails to the Commissioners! Show up and let the Commissioners know CCPS should be receiving 50% of the budget! 46% is not 50%!
