The President of the United States, Donald Trump, on Saturday gave his support to the “brilliant” boss of the American semiconductor giant Nvidia, target, according to the “New York Times”, of a Chinese espionage operation, assuring that Washington would examine this information “very closely”.
A Chinese manager of the company Megaspeed, suspected by the American intelligence services of having operated as an agent of Chinese intelligence, had established a close relationship with the boss of Nvidia, Jensen Huang, said the “New York Times”.
This company, based in Singapore, is suspected of having diverted advanced AI chips from Nvidia to China, says the newspaper, citing anonymous sources close to the investigation.
Beijing denounces “baseless speculation”
Information described as “baseless speculation” by Beijing on Friday. “I have a lot of respect for Jensen. I don’t know about that specific thing, but I hope it goes well for him. He’s a great, brilliant person, and we want to protect our brilliant people,” Donald Trump told reporters outside his Florida residence. “We are going to examine this very closely,” continued the 47th American president.
The Chinese manager, Alice Huang, unrelated to the Nvidia boss, had established a close relationship with him, according to the “NYT”.
“Megaspeed is no different from many other regional cloud customers. There is nothing unusual or surprising about the exchanges between Jensen and Ms. Huang,” Nvidia responded.
Jensen Huang advises Donald Trump on AI and was part of the delegation of bosses traveling with the American president to meet his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, in Beijing in May.
Trump maintains his confidence in Jensen Huang
Asked if he planned to keep him by his side, Donald Trump replied: “I would like to say yes. Unless we discover something to the contrary, I have always found Jensen Huang to be a person of great integrity. “But, you know, it’s a very complex issue,” he added.
The boss of Nvidia affirmed in the spring of 2025 that he wanted to “continue to be very present in the Chinese market”, according to the New China agency, at a time when Beijing is accelerating the development of its own semiconductors.
