The new FC Sion stadium project is moving forward. The Valais club announced on Friday that it had submitted the “Sion 2030” project for preliminary investigation to the services of the State of Valais and the City of Sion. The enclosure, which will have a retractable roof, according to its presentation brochure and its website, has a capacity of 21,000 seats, expandable up to 33,000 when used for concerts. Also equipped with a hotel and equipped with roller coasters around the stadium, it should cost 450 million francs.
This preliminary investigation constitutes a preparatory step before the formal procedure. It should allow the services of the State of Valais and the municipality of Sion to identify the technical constraints and problems linked to the construction of the stadium, explains the club in a press release. The remarks should then allow FC Sion to adapt its file. Christian Constantin’s club plans a public inquiry in mid-2027.
