Suffering from cancer, a patient from Strasbourg filed a complaint after his MRI was canceled in favor of animal experiments. In total, 43 patients had their examinations canceled, while research for private companies was maintained.
The affair caused an outcry in France. It is now taking a legal turn. A colon cancer patient filed a complaint against X on Monday in Strasbourg for “endangering the lives of others and failing to help”. He criticizes the University Hospital Institute (IHU) for having canceled its medical imaging examination, while experiments on pigs were being maintained.
The complaint was filed with the public prosecutor by Gabriel Weisser, a relative of the patient. “He is a citizen who suffered a serious medical injustice,” he denounced to the press. According to him, the approach is not aimed at obtaining compensation, but at establishing responsibilities and preventing such a situation from recurring.
The facts date back to March 2025. Due to lack of staff, 43 patients had their imaging appointments canceled on March 14, 24 and 26. Among them were around ten people being followed for cancer or with suspicion of a malignant tumor.
At the same time, the establishment had maintained experiments on pigs and a human body, carried out on behalf of private companies. A situation revealed a few weeks later by “Le Point” and quickly nicknamed “the pig affair”.
“In this type of cancer, we are within a week”
Gabriel Weisser explains that he finally found a solution himself to allow his loved one to take the exam before his operation, scheduled for the end of April. “In this type of metastasized cancer, we are within a week,” he emphasizes, emphasizing the importance of this MRI to prepare for the surgical intervention, which was finally able to take place.
The case had already given rise to several administrative investigations. A report from the French general inspectorates, extracts of which were published in September by “Rue89 Strasbourg”, confirms the 43 deprogrammings and points to failures in the governance of the establishment.
