Paul Casey may not have won the Omega European Masters, the legendary golf tournament held in Crans-Montana, but he certainly won the hearts of spectators. The Englishman, second in the competition, decided to donate his entire prize money to help the victims of the Crans-Montana tragedy, reports “Le Nouvelliste”.
The Englishman, who was still in the lead before the last hole, had already announced his intention on Saturday, after taking control of the competition. “Whatever happens on Sunday, I will ensure that all of my prize money is donated to the association which helps the victims of the January 1 fire in Crans-Montana,” he declared, on the verge of tears.
330,000 francs to help the victims
The one who now lives in Switzerland is a man of his word. On Sunday, he donated his entire prize money to the Beloved Foundation, which provides financial support to those affected by the tragedy. This represents a nice sum of 412,500 dollars, or a little more than 330,000 Swiss francs.
From a sporting point of view, Paul Casey failed on the last hole of the tournament before losing in the play-off against the South African Thriston Lawrence, winner of the Omega European Masters for the third time in his career. Best Swiss, Thurgau’s Joel Girrbach took 9th place.
The New Year’s tragedy in the “Le Constellation” bar claimed the lives of 41 people and left 115 injured. Currently, 17 people, including the Moretti couple, owners of the establishment, are notified in the investigation linked to this tragedy.
