It was no secret, but the information is now official. This Thursday, the French Football Federation (FFF) announced Zinédine Zidane’s staff. Unsurprisingly, the coach chose David Bettoni as his assistant.

For several weeks, the name of David Bettoni has been associated with the France team. This may come as a surprise in Switzerland. The technician had held the position of coach of FC Sion during the catastrophic 2022-2023 financial year, punctuated by relegation to the Challenge League. David Bettoni had disappointed.

He is even one of FC Sion’s biggest flops as coach in recent years. He had only managed the Valais club 10 times, for a meager record of two victories. His adventure came to an incredible end after a rout against Servette (5-0). Christian Constantin burst into the locker room at half-time, very angry. The Frenchman then submitted his resignation after the meeting, believing that he could not work in these conditions.

Before coming to FC Sion, David Bettoni had worked for four years with Zinédine Zidane at Real Madrid. Together, the two men, inseparable since their meeting at the AS Cannes training center, had won the Champions League three times. Hamidou Msaidie will be the other assistant coach of the Blues from the start of the school year in September.

Zinédine Zidane has chosen another acquaintance for the key position of goalkeeping coach. He called on Fabien Barthez, with whom he won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000.
