Bosnian international Edin Dzeko (40) has extended his contract for one season until the summer of 2027 with Schalke 04, the German club announced on Monday, which he joined at the start of 2026 and which he helped to move up to the Bundesliga.
Arriving in the Ruhr in January 2026 from Fiorentina, Edin Dzeko was under contract with the “Königsblauen”, the Royal Blues (colors and nickname of Schalke), until the end of the 2025/26 season. On Monday, he signed up for one more year until June 30, 2027.
“Since January I have played at Schalke with a great team and in front of fantastic fans. The return to the Bundesliga is one of the highlights of my career. I’m still hungry. And I also want to help our team in the Bundesliga,” explained Edin Dzeko, quoted in the Schalke 04 press release.
This summer, Dzeko participated in the 2026 World Cup in North America with Bosnia and Herzegovina, after eliminating Italy in March in the European play-offs. The Bosnian journey at the World Cup ended in the round of 16, with a defeat against the United States (2-0).
