The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) announced Monday that it was ending the mission of Swiss coach Vladimir Petkovic at the head of the Fennecs, after a mixed World Cup.
Inducted in 2024 following Djamel Belmadi, the technician of Bosnian origin, aged 62, is leaving his position some two months after signing a contract extension running until 2028.
The relationship between the FAF and Petkovic and his staff “officially ended today, by mutual agreement”, indicated the governing body of Algerian football.
With Petkovic, Algeria, helped by the new format of the 48-nation World Cup, qualified for the second time in its history for the knockout phase of a World Cup, after 2014.
But the story ended in the 16th round, against Switzerland (2-0). The Fennecs also did not shine at the African Cup of Nations in January, with an elimination in the quarterfinals by Nigeria (2-0). The FAF has not communicated on the identity of his successor.
