Pop star Ariana Grande will ultimately not play in a musical planned for London in 2027 and which was to propel her to the West End for the first time, the show’s producers said on Sunday, with a representative for the singer indicating that she wanted to take “a step back” from public life.
Aged 33, Ariana Grande was to share the poster with Jonathan Bailey – her partner in the hit films “Wicked” – in a musical comedy by Stephen Sondheim entitled “Sunday in the Park with George” and scheduled for summer 2027 at the Barbican Theater in London.
But, while the singer’s state of health is once again the subject of increased public comment, particularly on social networks, her representative indicated that the artist wanted to take “a well-deserved break away from work and public appearances” at the end of her “Eternal Sunshine” tour, which is due to conclude in London on September 1.
“We can confirm that she has decided to withdraw from ‘Sunday in the Park with George’,” the producers said in a statement on X, without giving a reason.
“We know that this decision was certainly not easy to make, and she made it with all of our understanding and support,” the statement continued, adding that the show would go ahead as planned and the cast would be announced “in due course.”
The singer’s representative reported to +People+ magazine that the artist wanted to take “a step back” from public life, her numerous appearances having “resulted in incessant and permanent comments from the public”.
Fans have expressed growing concern for her health, especially after Friday’s release of the music video for “Petal,” in which she appeared to have lost weight.
