World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz, sidelined by a wrist injury since April, will also not participate in the Masters 1000 in Cincinnati which starts next week, the organizers announced on Tuesday, wishing him “the best” in his “recovery”.
The 23-year-old Spaniard had planned to return to competition in Ohio to prepare for the US Open, the last Grand Slam tournament of the season, which opens on August 30 in New York.
The organizers of the Masters 1000 explained that the title holder had been forced to withdraw and postpone his resumption due to a “wrist injury”.
“We know that Carlos is doing everything possible to return to tournaments as soon as possible,” said director Bob Moran. “We wish him the best in his recovery and look forward to welcoming him to Cincinnati in the future.”
The seven-time Grand Slam winner withdrew from Madrid, Rome then Roland-Garros, where he had won the two previous editions. He also did not participate in Wimbledon where the No. 1, his rival Jannik Sinner, pocketed the trophy.
