American actor and singer Jared Leto faces new accusations of sexual violence. In the documentary “Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret”, broadcast this Wednesday by the BBC, four women accuse him of alleged sexual assault committed when they were teenagers.
In total, ten women testify in this investigation lasting almost half an hour. Four describe facts likely to be criminal, while six others denounce behavior deemed inappropriate or interactions of a sexual nature when they were young.
According to their accounts, the events took place between 2002 and 2016, at a time when Jared Leto, now 54 years old, was between 30 and 40 years old. Two of the accusers say they were 17 years old at the time of the facts. A third claims the actor threatened her with sexual assault when she was 19.
A fourth recounts having received, from the age of 16, telephone calls of an explicit sexual nature and proposals for sexual relations. She also claims to have received a confidentiality agreement intended to prevent her from speaking about her relationship with the actor. The BBC indicates that it was able to consult this document, which was never signed.
Uncomfortable employees
The documentary also gives voice to two former collaborators of the group Thirty Seconds to Mars, founded by Jared Leto. They say the team was uncomfortable with the singer’s interactions with very young fans, some being invited backstage, his dressing room or even into the house where the group was recording.
The BBC claims to have cross-referenced several testimonies thanks to those close to the actor as well as photos, messages and other elements which, according to it, support the stories of the women interviewed. Despite several requests for an interview and reaction, Jared Leto has not responded to the accusations made by the BBC.
Already last year, nine women accused the Oscar-winning actor of “sexual misconduct”, some claiming to have been minors at the time of the facts.
