Lionel Messi became the top scorer in Leagues Cup history on Wednesday, scoring twice in Inter Miami’s 4-2 home victory over Mexican club San Luis.
The Argentine star reached the mark of 14 goals in twelve Leagues Cup matches, surpassing Denis Bouanga, the Gabonese striker of Los Angeles FC, who has 13 goals in the competition.
Atlético San Luis dared to venture into the Florida camp and, after a long series of passes, David Rodríguez opened the scoring (1-0) in the 4th minute with a header from a pass from Román Torres.
Recently arrived in the American League (MLS) from Manchester United, Brazilian Casemiro launched the attack which led to Miami’s equalizer by serving Noah Allen. The left side sent a dangerous cross which Messi converted with a subtle strike (11th).

“La Pulga” returned to the MLS field on Saturday by entering the game in the second half during Inter Miami’s draw (2-2) against the Columbus Crew. Last week, the 39-year-old star striker returned to training with his club, ten days after Argentina’s World Cup final defeat against Spain.
