Edda, 25, claims to have almost been refused boarding a Lufthansa flight because her outfit was considered too light. In a video published on TikTok, the German influencer denounces the treatment the company allegedly reserved for her. Viewed thousands of times, his publication rekindles the debate on the dress codes imposed by certain airlines.

In the video, the young woman explains that she wore a short, tight sports outfit while temperatures were around 30 degrees. When she was having her boarding pass scanned, an employee stopped her.

“You can’t board,” she allegedly told him. When the influencer asked her why, the employee reportedly replied: “You have nothing on you,” before adding: “You are naked.”

The case is not unique. Passengers around the world regularly report being criticized or even excluded from a flight because of their attire. And most of the time, airlines are within their rights. The conditions of carriage of many companies provide for the possibility of refusing boarding to a person whose attire is considered inappropriate.

For example, revealing clothing, offensive clothing or traveling barefoot are not tolerated at Spirit Airlines, a low-cost airline in the United States.

At Swiss, appropriate clothing recommended

For its part, Swiss does not apply an official dress code. She confirmed to Travelnews that no specific rules apply to passengers, including in business class. However, the company expects its passengers to wear appropriate clothing. While shorts, leggings or jogging pants are generally permitted, clothing deemed too revealing, offensive or clearly unsuitable may result in denied boarding.
