Person Bitten by Unknown Dog on Emerson Drive in Frederick, Maryland, on Saturday, February 17, 2024. Seeking Owner of Dog.

A person was bitten on the face by an unknown dog on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at around 5:00 p.m. on Emerson Drive in the Whittier community of Frederick, Maryland. The bite occurred when the unknown dog ran over to the victim’s dog and the victim bent down to retrieve his dog. The biting dog is described as a very large, tan/white, Great Dane-type dog that was off leash and unaccompanied at the time of the bite.

Contact is needed to confirm the animal’s health and whereabouts. The animal will need to be quarantined, which can occur in the owner’s home, for 10 days to monitor its health. If the animal is verified to be in good health 10 days after the bite, it will be allowed to resume normal activity, and the victim can avoid receiving unnecessary and expensive post-exposure rabies vaccinations. The Frederick County Health Department is asking that the owner or anyone who has information about the animal please contact Frederick County Animal Control at 301-600-1544.

If you or someone in your family is bitten or scratched by a dog or cat, obtain contact information from the animal’s owner so that appropriate action can be taken. Report bites to Animal Control at 301-600-1544. Report possible human exposure to Community Health Services at 301-600-3342. For general rabies questions, call Environmental Health Services at 301-600-1717. Visit https://health.frederickcountymd.gov/RABIES for more information.
