Announced on December 2nd (on Twitter):  Dave Wallace (R) has officially entered the race for Congressional District 2 in Maryland. Here is that post/announcement:

Dave becomes the first “official” Republican candidate for the 2024 election cycle in this race. There is currently one “official” candidate on the Democratic side: Clint Spellman, Jr.

See an official listing of candidates in District 2 here: https://elections.maryland.gov/elections/2024/Primary_candidates/gen_cand_lists_2024_3_2.html

The seat has been represented by Dutch Ruppersberger of the Democratic Party since 2003. Congressman Ruppersberger has not filed for reelection as of this article and I have not seen an official announcement about his plans for 2024…but I am guessing that he is planning to run again (although at the age of 77…we will see if he chooses that option this election cycle).

Election history for Dave Wallace:

Dave Wallace ran in Congressional District 2 back in 2022 coming in 2nd in the Republican Primary behind Nicolee Ambrose:

Wallace ran for U.S. Senate in Maryland in 2016 coming in 5th in the Republican Primary.

Wallace ran in the 2014 election for the U.S. House to represent Maryland’s 8th District. He ran unopposed for the nomination in the primary on June 24, 2014. Wallace was defeated in the general election.

Wallace ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Maryland’s 8th District. Wallace sought the nomination on the Republican ticket, but he finished 2nd in the Republican primary.

In 2010 Wallace was a Republican candidate for District 5A of the Maryland House of Delegates. Wallace finished 4th in the Republican Primary (top 2 seats moved on to the General Election that year).

Currently The Observer has not created a candidate tracking page for District 2. This is currently under consideration as we wait to see what other candidates enter the race. The Observer does have candidate tracking pages for the Carroll County Board of Education race and the Maryland Congressional District 3 race.
