Carroll Community College Ranked 7th Best Community College in Maryland in 2023 per WalletHub


With Americans struggling financially due to high inflation and a year of community college nearly three times less expensive than a year at a public four-year college, the personal-finance website WalletHub released its report on 2023’s Best & Worst Community Colleges, coupled with its state-by-state ranking of the Best & Worst Community-College Systems, as well as expert commentary.

To determine where students can receive the best education at the cheapest rates, WalletHub compared more than 650 community colleges across 19 key indicators of cost and quality. The data set ranges from the cost of in-state tuition and fees to student-faculty ratio to graduation rate.

The Carroll County Observer will list schools in Maryland (and highlight the community college here in Carroll County).

In the “state-by-state rankings” in 2023, Maryland ranked as the #3 state in the country for Community Colleges. The top two states are: New Mexico and Connecticut.

In the state of Maryland, the top 10 community colleges are:

  1. Montgomery College
  2. Howard Community College
  3. Harford Community College
  4. Prince George’s Community College
  5. Anne Arundel Community College
  6. Hagerstown Community College
  7.  Carroll Community College
  8. Chesapeake College
  9. College of Southern Maryland
  10. Frederick Community College

Some notable items from the data

Two Maryland schools were in the top 20 in the nation:

  • Montgomery College rank #10 in the nation
  • Howard Community College ranked #14 in the nation

Carroll Community College ranked #87 in the nation (out of 668 evaluated community college schools).
