Heading into Maryland candidate filing deadline it appeared that current Carroll County Commissioner in District 5 Ed Rothstein would cruise to a second term as he did not have an opponent in the Primary or General Election in 2022. Then April 15th came around (the final day for candidates to file to run) and now he apparently has two opponents in the Primary.

Filed on April 15th:

Cathey Allison

Kate M. Maerten

Obviously with the late filings I do not have much information on Cathey or Kate at this time. Here are a couple of public social media posts I did find:

Cathey:

Kate:

I will have more information on this race in the coming weeks.

You can see the full list of candidates for local races in Carroll County here: https://elections.maryland.gov/elections/2022/primary_candidates/gen_cand_lists_2022_1_by_county_7.html

Hopefully the state BOE site gets updated soon with the candidates in the correct districts.

You can also see what the Carroll County Board of Elections website has listed here: https://elections.carrollcountymd.gov/Default2.aspx

Hopefully the Carroll County BOE site adds the new candidates from yesterday onto their list soon.
