Current Carroll County Commissioner (District 1) Stephen Wantz Filed To Run For Maryland State Delegate in District 5 on January 14th. Here is that filing:

There is a website listed…but VERY little information on it: https://stevewantz.org/

The Facebook link at the top of the website points to https://www.facebook.com/StephenWantz but that page is still branded as his County Commissioner page.

Stephen Wantz is the second County Commissioner to file to run for Delegate in District 5 (joining Commissioner Dennis Frazier – District 3).

It looks like one additional current County Commissioner is getting ready to file for a run for Delegate in the near future. This post was shared from the Carroll Republican Victory page about County Commissioner Eric Bouchat (District 4):

My guess is that Commissioner Bouchat would also enter the District 5 race for Delegate.

Delegate in District 5 is becoming the hot race in 2022 in Carroll County. You can view all candidates that have filed to date (six as of this post) here: https://elections.maryland.gov/elections/2022/primary_candidates/gen_cand_lists_2022_7_9.html

Other recent filing updates:

Filing for Delegate in District 5 on February 14th was Scott Willens:

I do not have any additional information on this candidate other than the filing.

Filing to run for Delegate in District 9A on February 11th is Scott Jendrek.

The website noted in the filing is not operational today and I was unable to locate a Facebook page for this candidate.

Things I am wondering about the two Scott’s noted above (Willens and Jendrek…not me):

  • Willens has a listed address of Frederick…so I wonder if this filing gets moved to District 4 in the future.
  • Jendrek has an address of Eldersburg…so I wonder if this filing gets moved to District 5 in the future.

What happens with the lawsuits will shake up many of the races across the state. My gut tells my the courts are unlikely to fix the horrible gerrymandering done by the folks in Annapolis (at the the elected officials that voted for this mess) and this is what we will end up with: https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/Other/Redistricting/Final/LRACFINAL-LEGISLATIVE/lrac-legislative.pdf

I will watch for announcements about what happens in court and be sure to update my followers here on the Blog.

Here is the best place to watch for new filings: https://elections.maryland.gov/elections/2022/primary_candidates/index.html

As a reminder…the candidate filing deadline has been moved to March 22nd because of the active court cases: LEARN MORE

I will continue to watch for new filings. For candidates that send me press releases, statements and photos I will publish those here on the Blog…at least through March 23rd.
