Daniel Carr’s sanction has been increased. Initially suspended for five matches after his violent punch in the face of Gaëtan Haas, the HC Ajoie striker will ultimately have to serve a seven-match suspension. The Swiss Ice Hockey Sports Court partially accepted the appeal of HC Bienne, which requested ten matches. The fine imposed on Ajoulot and his club also increases from 6,780 to 9,040 francs.
As a reminder, the incident occurred on October 16, during the derby between Bienne and Ajoie. At the start of the third period, several scuffles broke out in front of the Jura cage. Daniel Carr then attacked the Biel captain.
The two men exchanged blows before Haas fell to his knees, his jersey pulled up over his head. When his opponent could no longer defend himself, Daniel Carr delivered a final, particularly violent punch to his face.
Gaëtan Haas suffers a concussion
In its decision, the court emphasizes that approximately five seconds had passed between Gaëtan Haas’ fall and the last blow. Ajoulot therefore had time to notice that his opponent was no longer participating in the fight.
HC Bienne announced that its captain was suffering from a concussion and would be absent for an indefinite period. The Icelandic club, however, did not obtain the ten matches requested and it will also have to cover 2,400 francs out of the 4,000 francs in costs of the appeal procedure.
