This is a visitor that the librarians certainly weren’t expecting. On Wednesday, October 14, around 6 a.m., a black bear entered the library in Mammoth Lakes, California.
The animal had obviously not come looking for reading material. After exploring several rooms, he discovered the closet where the employees kept their supplies. On the menu for his impromptu breakfast: peanut butter, cookies and, above all, a pot of honey.
The scene, filmed by a surveillance camera, was posted on Facebook by Mono County Education Services. The bear had already left the area when staff arrived. No material damage was reported.
A timely birthday
The anecdote is all the sweeter as this visit coincides with a very special date: the centenary of the publication of “Winnie the Pooh”, published on October 14, 1926. The director of the library, Josef Bopp, did not fail to note this coincidence with humor. He explains that he appreciates the enthusiastic visitors and understands the enthusiasm generated by this anniversary.
