Ten days before the start of the new White Circus season, Norwegian skier Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, overall winner of the World Cup in 2019-2020, suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during training in Chile.
Aged 34, the speed event specialist was injured on Wednesday when he fell during downhill training, the Norwegian Ski Federation announced on Thursday. He must return to Innsbruck, Austria, to undergo additional medical examinations and evaluate treatment options with his medical team.
This injury constitutes a new hard blow for the Norwegian, already the victim of a heavy fall during the downhill in Wengen (Switzerland) in January 2024. After several operations and a long convalescence, he made his return to the World Cup at the end of 2025 but had to give up the Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina in February 2026.
Winner of the big crystal globe in 2020 and 21 World Cup events, the fiancé of American skier Mikaela Shiffrin also has two Olympic medals (silver and bronze) won in Beijing in 2022 and two silver medals at the Worlds in Courchevel in 2023.
