Convicted of rape, the queen’s son seeks work

Being the child of a queen does not necessarily offer a royal path in life. And it is not Marius Borg Høiby who will say the opposite. The eldest son of Mette-Marit from Norway, born from a previous relationship, was sentenced at first instance to four years in prison for rape, violence and abuse in the context of a close relationship on June 15, 2026. He appealed this sentence.

Since then, Marius Borg Høiby has been under house arrest in a luxurious residence located on the Skaugum estate, where the royal couple resides. He is forced to wear an electronic bracelet and is regularly subjected to drug tests. He also follows a program against domestic violence.

Marius Borg Høiby, however, has a new idea in mind while awaiting his appeal. He would be looking for a job, according to information from “Dagbladet”. “He is motivated to start working and will take advantage of this period to obtain a concrete job offer,” his new lawyer confirmed to the Norwegian media.

A royal family in turmoil

Between the legal troubles of Marius Borg Høiby, the recent death of King Harald V and the health concerns of Queen Mette-Marit, who underwent a lung transplant in June and who was not able to accompany her husband during the opening of Parliament, the context surrounding the royal family is far from simple.

Marius Borg Høiby, who appealed his conviction for the two rapes, will be retried on February 9 by the Oslo court.
