The high school students’ movement is experiencing a “clear deceleration”, with a dynamic now “very localized” in certain departments, and the damage caused on the sidelines of the demonstrations or blockages has cost “at least 30 million euros”, an executive source reported on Friday.

“We have a clear deceleration” and “we have felt the deceleration for several days” with now a “very localized dynamic” due to “either local politicization or a real local problem”, detailed this source who spoke to several journalists, including AFP.

The movement is “mutating” and “we are on something which is becoming politicized and hardening on a plate of places (…) which is becoming quite residual”, she added.

According to a map cited by this source and consulted by AFP, the 141 high schools closed on Friday are located mainly in the Paris region, where the movement started, the north and the far west of the country, as well as near Lyon.

The cost of the damage caused alongside the actions of high school students represents “at least 30 million euros”, after adding the figures mentioned by the different regions to the rectors, confirmed the Ministry of National Education.
