Although it is far from being among the ten best leagues in Europe, the Super League remains a championship which sees some of the greatest talents in world football. Another former Super League player is now in the spotlight: Lucas Da Cunha. The Frenchman, captain of Como, is in the election of Zinédine Zidane for the Nations League matches of the France team in September.

Lucas Da Cunha is a well-known name in French-speaking Switzerland. Indeed, he wore the Lausanne-Sport jersey during the 2020-2021 season. Loaned by OGC Nice as part of the partnership between the two clubs via Ineos, the Frenchman had played 27 Super League matches with LS, for a total of six goals and an assist.
At the time, Lucas Da Cunha played as a winger. He never managed to really explode in this position. It was necessary for Cesc Fabregas, the Como coach, to reposition him in midfield for his career to take on a whole new dimension.
Thanks to his performances in Serie A and the Champions League, Lucas Da Cunha is now in the French team. A trajectory that few people would have imagined even five years ago, when he was not even an indisputable starter at Lausanne-Sport.
In Zinédine Zidane’s list there is another former Super League player: Andy Diouf. The Inter Milan player, who played for FC Basel in 2022-2023, received his first call-up.
