The motorist who violently hit and killed a mother on a bike in Saône-et-Loire, before being caught and attacked by her husband, was positive for cocaine and morphine, we learned on Saturday from the prosecution.
“The samples taken from the driver of the vehicle turned out to be positive for cocaine and morphine,” the public prosecutor in Mâcon, Anne-Lise Furstoss, told AFP.
Late Thursday afternoon, the 33-year-old mother was trying out her new bike in the presence of two of her three children, aged 8 and 10, in front of the family home in Salornay-sur-Guye, when she was hit by a vehicle, dying on the spot.
The motorist was driving at “excessive speed”, the prosecution said. According to the police, the cyclist was violently hit. She was thrown and one of her arms was torn off.
The victim’s husband, who witnessed the accident, then joined the driver, also in his thirties, who had stopped not far from the scene, and hit him several times with a box cutter.
The driver’s injuries required him to be transported by helicopter to Dijon University Hospital, without his life threatening according to the prosecutor.
He is “still currently hospitalized,” said the prosecutor on Saturday afternoon, his condition not allowing his placement in police custody.
The Mâcon public prosecutor’s office has opened two investigations, the first on the charge of road homicide, the second on the charge of violence committed with or with the use of a weapon (the vehicle being considered a weapon).
The husband was not taken into custody either. “Investigations are continuing for the moment concerning this second case,” explained the prosecutor.
