France and the United States were beaten on Saturday respectively by Canada and the Czech Republic and will not participate in the final phase of the Davis Cup which will take place from November 24 to 29 in Bologna (Italy).
The French, deprived of their injured No.1 Arthur Fils, were beaten 3-1 by Canada led by Felix Auger-Aliassime. The United States lost 3-2, including two singles defeats for Ben Shelton, finalist of the last US Open.
Germany is tied 1-1 with Croatia after the first two singles played on Saturday, including one won by Alexander Zverev, world No.2 and winner at Flushing Meadows. The seven qualifiers will join Italy, host of the final phase in Bologna.
